Poundin'

Torrential rains beat against the pavement as I make my way home
The homeless are stashed away like hidden treasures in crevices'
Lights flash in warning as people make their way around, below and over
Horns honk and screeching tires bring notice to the accident up ahead
Why did I have to come out in this?
My soaked boot soles create small departures as I step off the curb
and into a puddle
Overcoat drenched like I had been sitting in a shower provides no comfort
The errant winds send chills through my wet body
causing bones to chatter, joints to crack ...
I blink away water pellets from my eye lashes, blanketed like
a protected baby in a crib
I need to hurry back home
